Who has been chosen as the 78th President of the United Nations General Assembly?

The 193 UN Member States chose Dennis Francis, a seasoned diplomat from Trinidad and Tobago to preside over the 78th UN General Assembly session.

Francis who has nearly four decades of expertise, will take over as head of the main UN policy-making body starting in September.

At a ceremony held in the iconic General Assembly Hall at the UN's New York headquarters, he was elected by acclamation.

All 193 UN Member States are represented in the General Assembly, and each has one vote.
