IIG Recruitment 2023: Notification

The Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG) is recently released notification for recruitment of 25 Junior Research Fellows (JRF) for the year 2023 and has invited online applications on their official website at https://iigm.res.in/ from 08.03.2023 to 20.04.2023. The IIG is a research institute that operates independently under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.  It conducts research in the field of Geomagnetism and its related areas, using state-of-the-art experimental and high-performing computing facilities.

The institute primarily focuses on carrying out cutting-edge research in various areas. Such as Solid Earth, Space Weather, Upper Atmospheric / Ionospheric Physics and Space Plasma Physics The research in these areas is essential for the better understanding of our planet’s magnetic field, space weather, and other related phenomena. The institute offers a Doctoral Program in Geomagnetism and Allied Fields to promote research in these fields. IIG Recruitment 2023: Eligibility

  • The candidate must have completed an M.Sc./M.Sc. (Tech.) degree. In the disciplines of Physics, Geophysics, Space Physics, Applied Geology & Applied Mathematics with a minimum of 60% marks. Throughout the degree or an equivalent CGPA grade. The candidate should have studied Physics or Mathematics as a subject at the B.Sc./graduation level.
  • Aspirants who are pursuing their final year Master’s degree examination. In the relevant subjects in 2023 are eligible to apply for the program. In case they get selected, they must provide the necessary documents after satisfying the eligibility criteria during their admission to the institute.

Therefore, the candidate must have completed an M.Sc./M.Sc. (Tech.) degree with a minimum of 60% marks throughout, with Physics or Mathematics as a subject at the B.Sc./graduation level, or be in the final year of their Master’s degree in the relevant subjects to be eligible to apply for the program.

IIG Recruitment 2023: Vacancy Details

There are currently 25 vacancies available for the Doctoral Program in Geomagnetism and Allied Fields at the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism. Candidates applying for the Doctoral Program in Geomagnetism and Allied Fields at the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism must be under 25 years of age as of 1st July 2023.

IIG Recruitment 2023: Selection Criteria

As for the selection process, candidates who hold GATE/NET/INSPIRE-JRF certificates that are valid until January 2025 or later in the mentioned subjects can directly receive a call for the interview.

On the other hand, those who have not cleared any of these exams or lack a valid GATE/NET/INSPIRE certificate have to participate in a written test and a personal interview at IIG, Navi Mumbai. However, if they get selected, they need to clear any of these exams within a year, following the guidelines and standards of the University they are enrolling for the Ph.D. program.



IIG Recruitment 2023: Place of Research Work

The candidate who is chosen will be conducting their research work either at the IIG Headquarters situated in Navi Mumbai or at any one of the regional centers of IIG. These regional centers are EGRL Tirunelveli, KSKGRL-Prayagraj, and NEGRL- Shillong.
