In the last week of December, a bird survey was carried out at the Silent Valley National Park situated in the Nilgiri hills of Kerala. The survey revealed the presence of 141 bird species, including 17 new species that were not previously identified. The total count of bird species found in Silent Valley has now reached 175. The first bird survey in the National Park was conducted 30 years ago, in December 1990.
