At the 36th edition of the Asian Wrestling Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan from 9 April to 14 April 2023, Aman Sehrawat became the first Indian freestyle wrestler to win a gold medal in the men's 57kg category.
Sehrawat emerged victorious by defeating Almaz Smanbekov of Kyrgyzstan with a score of 9-4, who had won the bronze medal in 2022.
India's overall medal tally at the championship was 14, including one gold, three silvers, and ten bronzes, which ranked them 7th among all countries. Kazakhstan, Japan, and Iran were the top three countries in the medal tally.
