The Saudi Arabian government has taken a significant move towards becoming a dialogue partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a regional alliance dominated by China and Russia.
A memorandum was approved to commence dialogue with the SCO during a cabinet meeting chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
The decision to pursue membership was apparently discussed during a visit to Saudi Arabia by Chinese President Xi Jinping in December of the previous year.
