As per the production data from the Food and Agriculture Organization Corporate Statistical Database (FAOSTAT), the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala, has informed the Lok Sabha that India has emerged as the leading milk producer worldwide, contributing twenty-four percent to the global milk production in the year 2021-22.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying operates multiple schemes that benefit dairy farmers, particularly those facing financial difficulties.

The National Programme for Dairy Development is designed to improve milk quality, increase the percentage of organized procurement, processing, value addition, and marketing of milk products.

Over the past eight years, from 2014-15 to 2021-22, milk production in India has risen by fifty-one percent, reaching a total of twenty-two crore tonnes in 2021-22.
