1)On the eve of Republic Day, President Ram Nath Kovind will bestow the Param Vishisht Seva Medal upon Olympian Neeraj Chopra, who became the first Indian track and field athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympics. Neeraj, who is a Subedar in the Indian Army, joined the 4 Rajputana Rifles as a Naib Subedar through direct entry in 2016. He was selected for training at the Mission Olympics Wing and Army Sports Institute in Pune.
2)Neeraj Chopra was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2018 and the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in 2020 in recognition of his outstanding achievements in sports. Furthermore, during the 2022 Republic Day parade, the state of Haryana will present a life-size replica of Neeraj Chopra's Tokyo Olympic gold medal in the form of a tableau.
