A resolution proposed by Jamaica has been adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, designating February 17, 2023, as the inaugural Global Tourism Resilience Day.
The goal of this initiative is to promote the long-term sustainability of tourism. Over 90 countries supported the proposal to celebrate the day annually.
The UNGA has invited individuals to commemorate February 17 by increasing awareness of sustainable tourism in alignment with local, regional, and national priorities, and by organizing educational activities and events.
The first-ever Global Tourism Resilience Conference is scheduled to take place in Jamaica on February 15, culminating in the observance of Global Tourism Resilience Day.
