The consular, passport, and visa division of the external affairs ministry in India launched the "mPassport Police App".
This app is designed for law enforcement agencies and will be rolled out with 350 tablets to the Special Branch of Delhi Police, who are responsible for verifying the antecedents of passport applicants.
The app is expected to reduce the time for police verification of passport applicants to five days and minimize the chances of misuse of the process. The app was launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the 76th Raising Day Parade of Delhi Police.
