Question

Which country has recently unveiled the world's largest canal lock?
  • Italy
  • Switzerland
  • Germany
  • The Netherlands
Answer- D
1)The Netherlands has recently inaugurated the world's largest canal lock in the port city of Ijmuiden in the Port of Amsterdam. Dutch King Willen-Alexander officially opened the sea lock, which is 500 meters (1,640 feet) long and 70 meters wide. The project started in 2016 and was initially planned to be completed by 2019, but faced delays and budget overruns of around €300 million ($338 million).

2)The purpose behind constructing the Ijmuiden lock was to facilitate the entry of large cargo ships to the Port of Amsterdam. The lock's design allows ships to enter the canal without waiting for a favourable water level due to its depth. The structure, with almost nine meters above sea level, also serves as a defence against the risk of flooding.
